Pet Friendly Senior Living

In a 2019 survey, 70% of seniors said their pet is a factor in considering where to live for retirement. At The Lodge, we understand because we’re pet lovers too. That’s why even though most senior living communities do not allow pets – at least not dogs or cats – we’re pet-friendly and proud of it!

Pets are welcome to join their humans as residents at our brand new senior living community, in our independent living villas and ground floor apartments. That’s a real tail-wagger, even if your furry beloved is not a dog!

But there’s more to aging in place gracefully and happily than the familiarity of the past.

Pets Do Great Things for Seniors

The National Poll on Healthy Aging revealed that more than half of men and women ages 50-80 have at least one pet. Studies show that pets provide a wide range of psychological, physical, and social benefits, including specific health benefits such as decreased blood pressure and decreased cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

And senior pet owners themselves say having a pet:

  • Reduces stress
  • Gives them unconditional love
  • Always have a great listener
  • Provides companionship
  • Keeps them more active
  • Gives them a sense of purpose

Pet-Friendly Is Just the Beginning at The Lodge

Cathleen Connell, Ph.D., is a professor at the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health, which conducted the National Poll on Healthy Aging. She says, “Although the benefits of pets are significant, social connections and activities with friends and family are also key to quality of life across the lifespan.”

To her point, the National Poll reported that fully 65% of respondents said their pet actually helps them connect with other humans. That means your pet plus The Lodge add up to senior living at its best. We’re planning every detail to ensure our residents have all the right services and amenities at their fingertips. And in the tradition of Magnolia Manor, our parent organization, The Lodge will be a place where seniors can enjoy a fun and active life that enriches their mind, body, and spirit.

Looking farther into the future, The Lodge will be a full-service senior community. So, come the day you need help with daily living, The Lodge will still be here for you with assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation care.

Right now, future residents are already getting together to meet each other and share interests, especially our book clubs and Bible study groups. You’re invited, too! Who knows? You may discover you have pet love in common as well.

As much as we love pets at The Lodge, not every apartment is officially pet-friendly. And even though we’re not quite yet open, future residents are snapping up opportunities to move in as soon as possible. If your pet is hoping to make a move to The Lodge with you, now is the time to secure your place. You’ll get additional early-bird benefits, too, including the ability to choose your own colors and other details in your new home.

We’re so excited about The Lodge, we love talking about it. We encourage you to contact us by phone or online. The more you learn, the more excited you will be to plan your future with us.
